Covering a song written by my son, Nate Todd, is a huge privilege. Mother Lode is from the album The Crystal Palace by his band Whiskey Tango.
I really like the layers that peel away in the song: rejection of materialism, a turning to a natural world unsullied by humans. I also love the song's bridge and it's very human doubt - "I don't know where I'm going, yeah, I'm running blind", with that beautiful Bm-Am-F-C-G progression. But in the end, the prospector figures it out, doubt is removed and he embraces a greater wealth. Well done, son
